Environmental Policy Commission - 2-year term 1 member from the field of environmental science (e.g. environmental/sanitary engineering, ecology, geology, botany, hydrology, chemistry) or who has Alexandria Waterfront expertise

The City Council is considering appointments for one 2-year term position on the Environmental Policy Commission. The seat requires a member with expertise in environmental science (such as engineering, ecology, geology, botany, hydrology, or chemistry) or specific knowledge of the Alexandria Waterfront.

Four candidates are being considered:

• Dr. Jordan Kaelin Eccles: Holds a PhD in Earth and Ocean Sciences and has extensive experience in federal environmental policy, urban planning, and land-use compatibility, including work at the White House Council on Environmental Quality and Marstel-Day. He has lived in Alexandria for 10 years and is involved in local civic life.
• Dr. Meaghan Gade: Holds a PhD in Environment and Natural Resources and has professional experience in environmental reviews and assessments, with a focus on urban development's impact on ecosystems. She has been an Alexandria resident for 2 years.
• Mr. Christopher Readinger: Holds a Master of Science in Atmospheric Science/Climatology and has a background in meteorology, GIS analysis, and portfolio management focusing on climate and cyber risks to critical infrastructure. He has lived in Alexandria for 12 years and has participated in local environmental programs.
• Ms. Julia Slayden: The incumbent, who has served one term and is reapplying to continue her service on the commission, bringing her experience in environmental policy issues facing the city. She has lived in Alexandria for 4 years.
