RES 2 To recognize January 2026 as Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and to otherwise provide with respect thereto. (A/Taylor)

Shreveport, LA February 10, 2026 - February 10, 2026

This resolution recognizes January 2026 as Human Trafficking Awareness Month. It highlights that human trafficking is a serious crime and public health concern that exploits men, women, and children for labor and commercial sex. The resolution notes that individuals at higher risk include those experiencing abuse, poverty, or social disconnection. It references the establishment of The FREE Coalition in 2012 to combat trafficking in Northwest Louisiana and mentions that in 2024, Louisiana identified 860 victims under 17 and 336 victims 18 and older, with 128 cases in Caddo Parish alone. The national theme for 2026, "Stronger Connections. Stronger Futures," emphasizes the importance of relationships and community support in prevention. The City Council supports initiatives to combat human trafficking and encourages community awareness and action.
