San Antonio Ready to Work Program Update Regarding Target Occupations. [Alejandra Lopez, Assistant City Manager; Michael Ramsey, Executive Director, Workforce Development Office]

San Antonio, TX January 27, 2026 - January 27, 2026

Summary

The San Antonio Ready to Work (RTW) program, through its Advisory Board, has decided to remove nine target occupations from its list of approved training programs. This decision follows previous removals, bringing the total number of removed occupations to 22 over the last four months, with 62 remaining active. The removed occupations include roles in compliance, healthcare (Dietitians, MRI Technologists, Medical Dosimetrists, Natural Science Managers), manufacturing (Machinists), construction (Roofers), and finance (Personal Financial Advisors, Securities Agents).

The program's prime partners will be notified and offered alternative approved occupations. Participants currently enrolled will not be affected. Additionally, the Board recommended promoting 20 occupations that have demonstrated a job placement rate of over 70% within six months to increase participant enrollment in successful programs.

Citizen Impact

This update means that fewer specific career paths will be actively promoted and supported by the Ready to Work program. Residents interested in the removed occupations may need to seek training and job placement assistance through other avenues.
