Measure G Extension and Ballot Measure Polling Results
The City of Salinas is considering extending Measure G, a one-cent transactions and use tax that generates over $30 million annually and is set to expire in 2029. This measure has funded 106.5 city staff positions and ongoing capital projects. Without an extension, the city projects a structural budget deficit of approximately $47.8 million (21%) by FY 2030.
A poll conducted in February 2026 by Probolsky Research and William Berry Campaigns surveyed likely November 2026 voters. The results indicate strong community support for extending Measure G, with 81% rating the quality of life in Salinas as good or fair. Key community concerns include maintaining streets and sidewalks, responding to homelessness, and planning for housing availability and affordability. The poll found that 67% of respondents believe the City has a need for additional funds to maintain services and facilities, and 81% would vote yes on a measure to renew Measure G without raising taxes.
If approved by the City Council, the measure would be placed on the November 3, 2026, General Election ballot. A proposed timeline includes public hearings in May 2026 and a formal call for the election on June 30, 2026. Educational communication and outreach will commence in March 2026 and conclude by September 30, 2026.
