This local law requires the Commissioner of Homeless Services to coordinate with hospitals to provide essential supplies to individuals experiencing homelessness who are being discharged during extreme weather events.
During a "code blue alert" (temperatures 32°F or below, including wind chill, between 4 PM and 8 AM), patients will receive:
- A mylar thermal blanket
- Hand warmers
- A winter hat
- A pair of gloves
During a "code red alert" (heat emergencies including temperatures of 95°F or higher for extended periods), patients will receive:
- A mylar thermal blanket
- A reusable water bottle filled with cold water
- Cooling wipes
- A bandana
The law is subject to appropriation and takes effect immediately.
