Consider recommending adoption of an ordinance of the City of Denton, a Texas home-rule municipal corporation, authorizing the City Manager to execute a contract with Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc., for household hazardous waste disposal for the Solid Waste and Recycling Department; providing for the expenditure of funds therefor; and providing an effective date (RFP 8882 - awarded to Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc., for one (1) year, with the option for four (4) additional one (1) year extensions, in the total five (5) year not-to-exceed amount of $400,000.00).

The City Council is considering authorizing the City Manager to execute a contract with Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc. for household hazardous waste disposal. This contract is for the Solid Waste and Recycling Department and is part of the Home Chemical Collections (HCC) program, which began in 2006 to provide residents a safe disposal method for common household hazardous wastes like cleaners, pesticides, paint, motor oil, and batteries. Improper disposal can contaminate water sources. The program collected over 206,338 pounds of hazardous waste last year. The contract is for one (1) year with the option for four (4) additional one (1) year extensions, with a total not-to-exceed amount of $400,000.00 over the five-year period. Funding will come from the Home Chemical Collection’s Environmental Compliance account.
