Staff Reports 1. Matrix Update Memo 2. Matrix

Denton, TX N/A - N/A

This item presents updates on various sustainability initiatives and requests from the Sustainability Framework Advisory Committee (SFAC).

Key Updates and Status:

  • Greenspace Enhancements: Funding allocated in FY2025-2026 for low-water-use medians. Staff will provide further updates.
  • Incentives: Reinstating solar rebates and creating new rebates for battery storage, EV chargers, white roofs, permeable sidewalks, and reflective paving would require significant funding reallocation and staff resources. Solar rebates were discontinued in 2023, with funds shifted to energy efficiency rebates which benefit more residents. Energy efficiency improvements are modeled to have a greater impact on emissions reductions than increased solar capacity.
  • Denton Municipal Electric (DME): Updates on the Renewable Energy Policy and Integrated Resource Plan are expected in approximately two years. The pollution cost of acquiring dispatchable generation is currently unknown. Legislation requiring backup generation did not pass.
  • Moseley Road Landfill: The site in Crossroads, TX, is approximately 73 acres.
  • Air Quality Data: Staff are consulting with the University of North Texas for data analysis.
  • Wildlife Corridors: The Denton Development Code and Denton 2040 Comprehensive Plan address habitat protection. A Wildlife Corridor Map, developed with the University of North Texas and a Wildlife Working Group, is available on the City's GIS system as a planning tool for future land uses.
