This ordinance amends city code to allow publicly accessible electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment to encroach into public rights-of-way. It updates sections related to street encroachments and finance, taxation, and procurement to accommodate EV charging infrastructure.

  • Encroachment Permits: Publicly accessible EV charging equipment can be permitted within the public right-of-way, subject to existing encroachment permitting requirements and new conditions.
  • License Agreements: Installation and operation will be governed by a license agreement between the owner and the City, and must comply with "City of Alexandria EV Charging Requirements."
  • Fees:
    • An initial $100 Permit Processing Fee is required.
    • An Annual Charge will be assessed based on the square footage of occupied right-of-way at $1.50 per square foot.
